It is widely acknowledged that technology can improve the social impact of culture, and in turn culture can shape our technological habitat, humanizing it. Many museums and cultural centres find themselves at a crossroad between their analogue past and their multiplatform future, between their local communities and global realities, between the patrimonial and physical and the “non-object”.

In this Symposium we will address aspects related to cultural ecosystems in the digital age, strategic aspects of artistic and cultural mediation (outwards), as well as diverse experiences and digital solutions related to sustainability and other concerns (inwards). Cultural entities must attend to a set of transversal agendas linked to both the universal and the community -the place, sustainability, the environment, education, health and well-being- to name but a few. The digital route facilitates local and global integration and participation and is synonymous with openness and inclusion, ensuring participatory fluidity that could become all-encompassing. Throughout various panel discussions we will deepen the relationship between culture and contemporary society through a world interconnected by digital systems, be it between people, people with objects, and objects with objects.
